Children of Immigrant Parents

Taking biculturalism into our conceptualization
One of the nuanced experiences of having immigrant parents is having to balance one’s heritage culture with one’s host culture (i.e., American culture). Cultural values of the parent may clash with those of the (adult) child, leading to distress, confusion, self-blame, and strained parent-child relationships. This presentation discusses experiences of biculturalism, ways this can manifest in your patient’s current presentation, and how to support your patient to integrate their bicultural identity.
